The careers of Erasure voice Andy Bell and synth mastermind Vince Clarke could hardly be more impressive: Erasure has been around for 35 years. In this time the pop duo has already released 18 longplayers. Their first six albums shaped the sound of the 80's and early 90's and made Bell and Clarke the most successful British musicians of those two decades. 

In 2020 Erasure released The Neon. With the 18th studio album the two musicians return to their roots. Vince Clark confronts a digitalizing world with the special sound of his analog synthesizers. Inspired by the pop music of recent decades, from bands Andy Bell loved as a child and teenager, through Erasure's own heyday in the late 1980s to the present day, it is the declared mission of 'The Neon' to renew the love of great pop. Their aim was not to indulge in nostalgia, but to transfer the spirit and essence of pop music into the present.

The vocals were recorded in Atlanta, USA in an analog studio. There Vince Clark accompanied his partner Andy Bell in the studio. The album was mixed in London. All photographs for the album were taken in the unique environment of Gods Own Junkyard, a gallery that houses a huge collection of old neon tubes. Andy Bell enthuses: "I had the feeling of being in a virtual reality game. It felt like being in a completely different world. And this is exactly the feeling we want to convey with our new album."
