Googoosh is an Iranian actress and singer. She was born on 5 May 1950 in Tehran as the daughter of Azerbaijani immigrants. With her father Saber Atashin Googoosh already stood on stage at the age of three and quickly became a child star. The singing inspired Googoosh's Iranian composers at the beginning of the 1960s to a new style of Iranian pop music, a mixture of Persian poetry and, among other things, jazz, Latin, blues, rock and disco music. In the 1970s she became a cult figure on the Iranian pop scene. She also influenced the fashion trends of her time with her hair look and clothing style.
In 1971 she won the first prize for her songs J´entends crier each t´aime and Retour de la ville. This was followed in 1972 by the first prize at the Carthage Music Festival. In South America her spanish song Desde hace tiempo became a hit. She sang the song Tavalodat in October 1977 in the palace in Tehran at the birthday party of the Iranian Crown Prince Cyrus Reza Pahlavi.
Their repertoire totals over 250 Persian-language and 55 international songs.
