The Basketball-Verein Hamburg Towers e.V. was founded in 2013. Its basic members include the current managing director and ex-national player Marvin Willoughby and the former national player Pascal Roller, who later retired. From the very beginning, a central pillar of the club's work has been the focus on young talent.
In 2006 a group around Willoughby and Jan Fischer, today also one of the managing directors of the Towers, founded the club Sport ohne Grenzen. The aim of the club was not only to promote basketball in Hamburg, but also to offer a wide range of sports for children in the Hamburg district of Wilhelmsburg. From 2009 on, the development of the club led to the young basketball team Piraten Hamburg, which now devoted itself more strongly to the sporting performance idea and formed the basis for the young talents department of the later founded Towers.
After the foundation of the Towers, the team could start its first professional season with a Wild Card in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProA. After a four-year gradual sporting development, the Towers won the ProA championship against the Nürnberg Falcons in the summer of 2019 and moved up to the 1st Basketball Bundesliga.
